Under the Memorandum the two organizations agree to exchange information, commit to technical assistance and technology transfer, conduct joint studies, research and publications, organize events and other mutual activities, as well as facilitate the exchange of experiences for the activities of each organization.

This will be crucial to take advantage of this prominent source of renewable energy in Latin America and ensure the adoption in the next decade of investments in renewable energy to achieve our common goal, to generate 70% of electricity from renewable energy sources in Latin America by 2030, as part of the RELAC initiative for our climate commitments, “said OLACDE Executive Secretary Alfonso Blanco.
“GWEC considers Latin America as one of the regions with the greatest potential for wind energy worldwide. With 25.6 GW of wind power capacity already installed, the region could reach 85 GW by 2030 in a custom accelerated scenario that the demand for energy increases and wind power replaces fossil fuels and satisfies the new demand. With an electricity consumption that is expected to increase by more than 70% by 2030 in Latin America, it is crucial that more clean energy be integrated in the energy systems of the region to ensure energy security and limit the impact of climate change on economic growth, “said Ben Backwell, GWEC CEO.
The key issues on which OLACDE and GWEC will cooperate include: sustainable energy development; energy economy; project finance frameworks for energy; planning, management and integration of wind energy in the region’s energy systems and regulatory and energy policy frameworks.
The first joint report between GWEC and OLACDE will cover renewable energy auctions in Latin America and will be published in early 2020.
