In compliance with the UREE Law, this proposal will avoid 2 aspects: 1) that the replaced equipment is part of a second-hand equipment market and 2) that the expected effects of the energy efficiency programs and campaigns developed are eliminated.
With the mechanism for the disposal of inefficient equipment, a business model that generates new jobs around the scrapping of replaced inefficient equipment is expected in Panama. So that the benefits of energy efficiency programs, developed from the implementation of the UREE Law, are made effective.
The development of this proposal is part of the activities of the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Efficiency Program (PALCEE) phase III, which OLACDE develops with the support of the Austrian Development Agency (ADA); Program that aims to reinforce energy efficiency initiatives that are under development and encourage intergovernmental cooperation in beneficiary countries in this phase of the Program (Panama and Dominican Republic).
The meeting to address this issue was led by the Secretary of Energy of Panama, Jorge Rivera; the international consultant in charge of the development of the proposal, Manuel de Diego and the Director of Studies, Projects and Information of OLACDE, Andrés Schuschny.
