The IV Energy Week started with the analysis of the role of statistics and energy indicators

Lima- Peru, Monday, November 11, 2019.- In one of the rooms of the Convention Center (LCC), representatives from the energy sector of Peru and the rest of the region, belonging to public, private and academic institutions convened to be part of the inauguration of the IV edition of the Energy Week.

In this space is where the advances that have been made in the improvement, systematization and modernization of the energy information systems of Latin America and the Caribbean were known.

The event was preceded by the Executive Secretary of The Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), Alfonso Blanco, who thanked the support provided by the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru, during the process of organizing the IV Energy Week, which takes place within the framework of the ISA-PERÚ-LAC World Renewable Energy Exhibition (Sun World 2019).

Additionally, he highlighted the progress made in the presentation of information systems in the region, thanks to the synergy and contributions of OLACDE’s strategic partners, such as, in this regard, the International Energy Agency and the Energy Statistics section of the United Nations.

In this regard, the Executive Secretary of OLACDE, Alfonso Blanco, was emphatic in the institutional function of the Organization to collect and systematize energy information in the region, with the support of all its Member Countries and especially the creation of synergies with different organizations “We want to generate a scope for discussion in the process of improving information systems and work on the methodological harmonization of energy codes to continue delivering tangible results,” said OLACDE’s secretary.

He also reported on the work that OLACDE develops, three years ago, with the International Energy Agency sharing the same vision, to which the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), a financial entity that has supported OLACDE to systematize energy information, as well as the World Bank in the development of energy information systems in 5 Caribbean countries.

At the end of his speech, the Executive Secretary of OLACDE announced the grant by Euroclima for the realization of three projects (Ecuador, Panama and Paraguay) for the development of useful energy balances. “The issues of useful energy balances are fundamental for the creation of valid and powerful information for the development of energy efficiency policies,” explained OLACDE’s secretary.

For his part, the head of the United Nations Energy Statistics Section, Leonardo Sousa, reported that in Latin America they have OLACDE, an alliance that is important to jointly coordinate the synergy.

Roberta Cuadrelli, head of the Energy Data Center Section of the International Energy Agency, who also participated in the inauguration, referred to the importance of the clean energy transition in the region.

The event “Monitoring progress towards the energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean: The role of Energy Statistics and Indicators”, which was organized by the United Nations Statistics Division, OLACDE, the International Energy Agency and the Bank World, activity with which Energy Week started, was attended by about 150 attendees and was divided into four sessions where the harmonization of energy statistics in Latin America and the Caribbean, international cooperation, in others was discussed .

Knowledge and Training

We promote advanced technical training programs that facilitate the exchange of experiences, as well as the development of the human and institutional capacities needed to support the energy transformations in our region.

Our academic offering includes executive programs, postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees, and innovative initiatives focused on topics such as energy transition, conventional energy, renewable energy, e-mobility, and regional integration.

OLACDE creates a regional network focused on energy knowledge that connects governments, young professionals, academics, and sector experts to drive collaborative solutions through technical cooperation and talent development to address future energy and climate challenges.

Technical cooperation and financing

We strengthen South-South and triangular cooperation ties as drivers to accelerate energy transitions in Latin America and the Caribbean. OLACDE brings together efforts among governments, multilateral organizations, academic institutions, and the private sector to mobilize financing, technical capacities, and innovative solutions tailored to our regional reality.

We promote strategic initiatives aimed at directing resources toward projects focused on decarbonization, conventional energy, renewable energy, and energy justice, with the objective of establishing a more efficient, inclusive, and sustainable regional cooperation architecture.

Regional Energy Community

We are building a regional energy community with a global outlook that seeks to position Latin America and the Caribbean as a key player on the international stage. OLACDE strengthens its representation in major multilateral forums related to energy, trade, and climate by fostering strategic alliances and promoting international cooperation.

Through events such as Energy Week, together with new spaces for international dialogue, we promote a collective voice that helps attract financial investment and create new opportunities for sustainable development across our region.

Energy Transition and Strategic Projects

We drive an energy transition based on principles of sustainability, energy security, and social inclusion. OLACDE supports countries in adopting new technologies related to energy efficiency, energy storage, green hydrogen, electromobility, and grid digitalization to accelerate the sector’s decarbonization process.

Our approach also includes promoting strategic projects that strengthen energy resilience at the regional level, contributing to emission reductions while consolidating a cleaner and more competitive energy infrastructure. Initiatives such as OEMLAC position our region as a leading reference in climate innovation and sustainable energy transition.

Energy information and data

We develop regional platforms dedicated to energy information, technical analysis, and strategic data systems that strengthen both public and private decision-making in the sector. OLACDE promotes the digital transformation of the sector through the use of artificial intelligence, georeferencing, and advanced tools for regional energy analysis.

The integration of systems such as SieLAC, together with new regional platforms, allows for the consolidation of reliable and up-to-date technical information, facilitating modern, interoperable, and evidence-based energy planning.

Regional Energy Integration

We promote cooperation in the regional energy sector, focused on collaboration, infrastructure development, and regulatory harmonization, with the objective of strengthening energy security in Latin America and the Caribbean. OLACDE coordinates projects related to electrical interconnection, gas integration, and regional energy planning, seeking to create efficient and sustainable partnerships.

Through cooperation with the governments of our 27 member countries, regional blocs, multilateral institutions, and both public and private stakeholders, we drive strategic initiatives that promote regulatory harmonization and new energy exchange mechanisms, in order to enhance national capacities and accelerate an integrated energy transition at the regional level.
