Through this Information System for Panama (siePanama), which is expected to complete its implementation during 2020, the country will be able to strengthen the capacities of administration, storage and processing of statistical information on different issues; which are required to analyze, follow-up and learn about the evolution of the country’s energy sector. Thus, automating access to this type of information with modern technological tools and promoting the knowledge management and energy planning models of the country.
Through the implementation of this Information System, Panama and the region will strengthen the management of their energy information, thus supporting a more sustainable development of their energy matrix through the possibility of making more efficient and rational use of energy resources on informed bases.
It is important to highlight that, during this implementation process, Panama will work on the harmonization of the methodology for the preparation of energy balances, with the International Recommendations on Energy Statistics of the United Nations (IRES methodology), so that the country’s energy information is based on internationally standardized concepts, thus promoting regional and global comparability.
This activity is part of the Program for Strengthening the Management and Dissemination of Energy Information for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, which OLACDE develops with the financial support of the IDB. Program that aims to strengthen capacities in the management, dissemination and delivery of energy information in Latin America and the Caribbean.
